Hyde ranked
No. 1 in state

Scott County’s Cameron
Hyde picked up another first place
finish Saturday after
recently being ranked No. 1
in the state as an elementary
school runner.
“I’m really proud of him,”
Scott County coach Lee
Carter said. “I don’t think
we’ve ever had a kid ranked
No. 1 in the state.”
Hyde’s posted the winning time
of 11:33.98 was impressive,
according to Carter.
“He beat every other kid
in the race by a good 400 meters,”
she said.
His running style is reminiscent
to another one of
Carter’s runners — Donovan
Norris, the coach said.
“His turnover never
changes,” Carter said. “The
number of steps he takes per
second never slows up in
the race, whether its uphill
or downhill. He never slows
down. It’s amazing to watch
him run.”

format than the team was used
to, which could have factored
into Scott County not finishing
as well as a team, Carter said.
The elementary team was divided
into two divisions. Hyde
won the boys’ 3K in the fourth through
sixth-grade class,
while Jesse Ritchie placed 10th.
In the girls’ fourth- through
sixth-grade division, Halie
Fain was SC’s top runner with
a time of 12:35.26, which was
good enough to grab third
place.
Nathan Hyde and Kaiden
Johnson took second and third
respectively in the boys’ kindergarten
through third-grade
division, while Alexis Hyde
took third in the girls’.
“Some of their times were
better than the fourth- through
sixth-grade times,” Carter
said. “So normally their points
would contribute. But regardless,
I’m so proud of this team.”
